ACT I — The Intention
Game. Set. Match. represents a forward-looking shift in Cross Bronx Studio’s production approach.
Adapted from the Italian film Perfect Strangers by Sid Abbas of MacGyver’s Performing Arts, the project marked our second collaboration with MacGyver’s and our first with Tall Tales Productions. Together, we set out to create work that reflected the cultural reality of Dubai itself.
The intent was clear. To celebrate local talent and to tell a story about family, not only the ones we are born into, but the ones we choose.
ACT II — Method
Despite having strong source material, the development process prioritised adaptation through rehearsal.
The script was developed in the room, with dialogue and comedic rhythm shaped around the strengths of the cast rather than imposed from the page. Sid’s draft provided a clear foundation, but the final version emerged through collaboration, listening, and iteration.
Casting was approached with intention. Performers from across the region were brought together to reflect Dubai’s diverse diaspora, allowing the story to emerge from lived experience as much as structure.
This process demanded trust. Creative authority was shared, but never diffused, ensuring the work remained coherent while drawing energy from the ensemble.
